The Forest Universe
“The Forest Universe” is a pediatric clinic.
Our goal was to create a spatial experience that conveys a sense of familiarity and safety for children, and trust for parents.
The concept of the “Forest Universe” structures our spatial narrative as a metaphor for a place of play, freedom, and connection with nature.
Based on the needs of both the children and the doctor, and guided by the “vocabulary of the forest,” we designed a “path-trail” along which the different functions are arranged in the space, each named after elements of the forest and embodying their characteristics.
We sequentially encounter the different areas:
The Bird Observatory — the reception area, a wooden structure that introduces us to the universe of the clinic.
Next, the Dense Forest — the waiting area, where sturdy tree-like seats are created for adults, while foliage-like cushions welcome the young patients.
We then encounter the Lake — a second waiting area, where birds flying in a flock reference the lakeside environment.
Finally, we arrive at the Clearing — the Examination Room, where white, symbolizing the purity of medical practice, meets the “Tree of Knowledge,” with the doctor’s degrees placed like the fruits of the tree.
Sound-absorbing materials are used for the “foliage” elements to facilitate the examination process.
All constructions are custom-made, designed and built on site, with wood as the dominant material.
