SARY
The commission for the study was assigned by SARY, a company with a long tradition in the production of cured meats and family roots in Cappadocia, in present-day Turkey.
The space accommodates different functions. At the rear are the company’s central warehouses in Athens, while the street-facing section, accessible to the public, hosts the retail area for the company’s products as well as a section where the raw materials are served in a processed form.
The origin of the customers, combined with the nature of the product, defined the central idea around which the space was developed. We drew inspiration from the cave houses of Cappadocia in order to highlight an atmosphere of tradition and the value of the raw materials. Natural earth was defined as the single design material, emphasizing the creation of a unified space through its monolithic character.
Thus, the floor, walls, and ceiling are designed using ceramic elements. At the same time, the detailed design of these elements, with references to Byzantine craftsmanship, creates plays of texture, relief, voids, and lighting.
