Pentanostimes

The “Pentanostimes” is a delicatessen shop in the center of Athens that highlights pies as a fundamental food, inseparably connected with Greek identity, quality, and healthy eating. The aim of the design was to convey the character of the new branding — the dough without margarine that encloses selected local delicacies — emphasizing the value of the raw ingredients and creating a spatial experience that communicates non-verbally to the visitor the purity of the flavors and, at the same time, the high quality of the product.

The shop is a narrow and elongated space, which was divided into three parts, organizing a linear spatial experience for the visitor.

The entrance functions as a transitional threshold. It is a wooden volume that hosts the display refrigerator, where the raw ingredients are exhibited like precious objects, and the passage — the “confessional” — which functions as a visibility filter, creating a gradual revelation of the interior.

Then the main space is revealed. We encounter the wooden, engraved claddings of the refrigerators, Naxos marble, the unplastered wall with the carefully aligned cables of the past, and the surface of engraved mirrors that fragment the image and create a play of reflections. These elements form a restrained yet luxurious material palette that places the product at the center of the experience.

At the back of the shop and under the mezzanine, there is a volume made of a metal frame and sandblasted glass, internally illuminated, which hosts the preparation area — the “hidden hearth” from which the aromas emerge.

The dark blue color conveys trust, calmness, and stability. It meets the warmth of wood, the play of mirrors, and the plaster moldings, building a sense of “sacredness” in this small shop in the center of Athens.

Two works by the painter Pavlos Hambidis were created especially for the space and adorn the shop, completing the overall experience.
