The Garden of Mrs. K.
The project concerns the landscaping of an outdoor area with a swimming pool for an existing single-story residence in the coastal settlement of Lykoporia, in Corinthia.
The house is located in direct contact with the sea. It enjoys unobstructed views toward the Corinthian Gulf to the north and toward the striking hill known as “Avgo” to the south.
The total plot area is 631.43 sq.m., of which 323 sq.m. are landscaped. The building is situated on the northern side, along the road, and access to the rear garden is provided through a corridor.
This is the family’s primary residence, and the garden is used throughout the year. The design approach was based on the need to unify the outdoor space with the existing building volumes, as well as the owner’s desire for the garden to function both as a tranquil retreat and as a space for gatherings with family and friends.
The linear shape of the plot allowed for the creation of a sequence of spatial narratives. A system of metal canopies and pergolas forms the main framework of the design and, together with the linear walkway, guides visitors through the gradual discovery of the site.
Along this path, one encounters covered and enclosed spaces, framed views of the landscape, as well as variations in levels and materiality throughout its length.
The entrance to the plot is defined by stone walls of varying heights which, in combination with a metal pergola, mark the beginning of the spatial narrative.
The pergola is interrupted and reappears in the rear courtyard, at the center of the plot, where the dining area and BBQ are arranged. Stone walls and built-in structures complete the composition of this space.
At the end of the route, the swimming pool and its surrounding area are revealed. The interplay of low walls provides privacy while maintaining unobstructed views toward the hill.
Karystos stone slabs, locally sourced stone, gravel, wood, and polished cement render, combined with white metal structures that support climbing plants, create a result that is fully integrated into its natural surroundings.
