Description
The offices are located on the 4th floor of a building on Poseidonos Avenue, directly opposite the Alimos Marina. It is an open-plan space with two of its four sides being glass walls. On one side, there is an unobstructed view of the marina and the sea, while on the other, part of the view extends towards Mount Hymettus.
The central concept was developed around the expression “That Means Business.” The aim was to create a spatial experience that non-verbally communicates to the visitor a sense of security and trust while placing them in a VIP environment that exudes prestige and creativity.
The layout design was inspired by the company’s logo, “START,” which features a dynamic gesture in the letter “A.” We used this to define the primary layout lines, oriented towards the sea. The space planning followed the open-plan concept. The area is divided into main spaces, such as offices and reception, and auxiliary spaces like the bathroom, kitchen, and rest area.
Entry to the office is sequential. At the threshold, the intermediate space between inside and outside, the transparent entrance door allows visual contact. Upon entering, the semi-transparent boundary of the woven metal curtain guides us toward the reception area.
The reception is centrally located on a wooden platform, allowing guests to view the company’s activities and different departments. The iconic reception desk is a custom-made piece from Dionysus marble, internally lit, serving as the core of the company.
The meeting room, a vital space for the company, is positioned centrally and directly opposite the reception, with the possibility of being unified with the rest of the space through sliding glass partitions. The central location of the reception and the meeting room divides the workspace into two sections corresponding to the company’s activities: administration and chartering. The CEO’s office occupies the most advantageous position concerning the view and has full control over the space. The CEO’s marble desk is specially designed to meet their needs.
Along the entire length of the blind wall, from the entrance to the sea view, there is a 15-meter-long artwork by the artist Yannis Selimiotis. This piece narrates a story, transitioning from one color palette to another, using the company’s logo colors.
The auxiliary spaces are located to the left of the entrance, clad in wood, conveying a sense of familiarity and showing the company’s care for its people.
To unify the space and give it a sense of security and VIP exclusivity, we surrounded both the interior and exterior facades with white velvet curtains that hang from the ceiling. These curtains interact with the elements they encounter, thickening, thinning, becoming heavier or lighter, allowing the space to remain dynamic and ever-changing. Behind the curtain could be the stunning sea view, the less appealing view of buildings, the elongated artwork, or the low furniture needed for the offices.
We chose to reveal the ceiling by exposing the wooden formwork of the concrete, to achieve a sense of height and to create tension between luxury and the industrial feel given by the exposed concrete. The flooring is made of vinyl carpet, installed with a special water-soluble emulsion to be removable without damaging the existing floor. This flooring choice unifies the space and enhances the sense of comfort and familiarity.
