Description
Τhe renovation concerns a typical 1960s apartment in the Zografou neighborhood near Ilisia. The apartment serves as a secondary residence for a family with two small children who live abroad and was renovated to meet their needs.
The 100m² apartment, with its three bedrooms, was redesigned with the central idea of preserving elements of the 1960s and harmonizing them with new additions, maintaining the style of the era.
At the entrance of the residence, a storage unit-wardrobe made of metal elements and glass was designed. This curved structure guides us into the interior of the home and delineates the living areas from the bedrooms and kitchen. The semi-transparent glass creates a play of light and reflections, and its retro design is paired with the bold burgundy color of the mosaic flooring.
In the hallway, bathrooms, and kitchen, vibrant colors inspired by the mosaic palette were used to highlight these features, adding a warm atmosphere to the space. In contrast, the living room and bedrooms, which have wooden floors, were painted in soft, pastel tones.
In the bathrooms, mosaic tiles were chosen to continue the design of the existing floors. A new addition to the space is a WC near the entrance, where a vertical mirror beside the sink extends the play of reflections.
In the kitchen, the original white marble sink and part of the white marble countertop and cabinets were retained, while the new additions were made of Tinos marble to emphasize the contrast between the old and the new. The bold color of the cabinets was selected from the mosaic floor’s palette.
